Electrical Transduction of Graphene NEMS Resonator

چکیده
Graphene, an atomically thin sheet consisting of only one layer of carbon atoms, attracts intensive research interest since its recent discovery [1], not only due to the simple fabrication process and its unique electronic properties, but also because of the ultimate mechanical strength as well [2], especially for nanoelectromechanical system (NEMS) applications. Here we report the preparation of ultra-clean graphene mechanical resonators for high-speed electrical readout, also in the pursuit to understand some intrinsic properties of this exotic material.

Top-Down CMOS-NEMS Polysilicon Nanowire with Piezoresistive Transduction
A top-down clamped-clamped beam integrated in a CMOS technology with a cross section of 500 nm × 280 nm has been electrostatic actuated and sensed using two different transduction methods: capacitive and piezoresistive. The resonator made from a single polysilicon layer has a fundamental in-plane resonance at 27 MHz. Piezoresistive transduction avoids the effect of the parasitic capacitance ass...
متن کاملVery High Frequency Nano-electro-mechanical Resonators and Their Chemical Sensing Applications
Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) have been proven to be ultrasensitive sensors for a variety of physical variables with unprecedented sensitivity, including force, mass, electrical charge, magnetic field, pressure, and heat. This thesis is intended to discuss using NEMS devices as chemical gas sensors, in a portable and compact total chemical analysis system. An integrated transduction meth...
متن کاملBalanced electronic detection of displacement in nanoelectromechanical systems
We describe a broadband radio frequency balanced bridge technique for electronic detection of displacement in nanoelectromechanical systems ~NEMS!. With its two-port actuation-detection configuration, this approach generates a background-nulled electromotive force in a dc magnetic field that is proportional to the displacement of the NEMS resonator. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the techn...
متن کاملNanomechanical mass measurement using nonlinear response of a graphene membrane
We propose a scheme to measure the mass of a single particle using the nonlinear response of a 2D nanoresonator with degenerate eigenmodes. Using numerical and analytical calculations, we show that by driving a square graphene nanoresonator into the nonlinear regime, simultaneous determination of the mass and position of an added particle is possible. Moreover, this scheme only requires measure...
متن کاملMechanical and Electrical Properties of Graphene Sheets
This thesis examines the electrical and mechanical properties of graphene sheets. We perform low temperature electrical transport measurements on gated, quasi-2D graphite quantum dots. In devices with low contact resistances, we use longitudinal and Hall resistances to extract a carrier density of 2-6 x 10 11 holes per sheet and a mobility of 200-1900 cm 2 /V-s. In devices with high resistance ...
